Vassos Hadzilacos was born in Volos, Greece in 1959. He received a BSE from Princeton University in 1980, and a PhD from Harvard University in 1984, both in Computer Science. In 1984 he joined the faculty at the University of Toronto, where he is currently a Professor. His research interests are in the theory of distributed computing, especially fault-tolerance and synchronization. He is co-author of Concurrency Control and Recovery in Database Systems, Addison-Wesley, 1987, and several research papers. He has served as Program Committee Chair of the ACM Symposium on Principles of Distributed Computing, and is on the editorial board of the Chicago Journal of Theoretical Computer Science, and the Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing.
